Rijksmuseum is one of Amsterdam's most well-known landmarks and one of the world's most famous museums. This vast museum consists of an unrivalled collection of Dutch masters and other celebrated artists ranging from the 15th to the 19th century. Included are magnificent works by Rembrandt, Jan Steen, Pieter de Hoogh, Vermeer, Rubens and Frans Hals. There are also sculptures, handicrafts, Dutch history, oriental art and a print room specialising in drawings and prints.

Since its opening in 1973 this museum has become one of Amsterdam's most popular attractions. The collection of Vincent Van Gogh's works is the world's biggest and most varied and comprises paintings, drawings and letters. Apart from the works of Amsterdam's most famous artist, the museum also boasts paintings of other world-famous artists such as Monet, Pissaro, Delacroix, Toulouse Lautrec and Gaugin and also hosts a variety of exhibitions throughout the year.

This is one of Europe's most important modern art museums, with a collection which mainly covers 19th- and 20th-century Dutch and French painting including works by Monet, Cézanne, Matisse, Van Gogh, Picasso and Chagall. The museum also features a large number of sculptures by Rodin, Moore, Renoir, Visser, and Laurens, many of which are displayed in the museum's sculpture garden.

The house has been open to the public since 1911 and is where the master lived and spent over 20 happy and successful years. It now contains etchings and drawings by this famous artist, as well as various paintings by Rembrandt's teachers and also the pupils he taught. Another must-see cultural attraction when in Amsterdam.

Located in a former city orphanage, this museum depicts the history of Amsterdam through a collection of paintings, sculptures, pictures, books, maps and an infinite array of other artefacts amongst which are many of Amsterdam's finest heirlooms.
